At the begining

So you would like to write a novel?

The most important thing to remember is to have a good gripping begining, the start of the story has to hold the readers attention not to long just long enough to make the reader carry on reading.

This is where you will establish the main character and a reason for your story.

Most important of all on you opening pages if you intend on sending your manuscript on to an agent, their pet hate is starting of a story in a dream.
If you have already done this, then my advice to you is RE-WRITE.

Do not trail of on a never ending story, your middle has to have meaning.
We can always get carried away in a story but it is that a story, you do not want your readers to put your book down and never finish reading.
Here you will bring in other characters and create the main story line.

The ending, this has to be the kicker. Depending on what kind of story line you are writing this has the obvious happy ending or if you are like me and do not like the obvious you will have a cliff hanger or a complete change of direction. Whatever your ending make it worth the wait.

You may think you have written the best novel and ask some-one close to you for their opinion, please be find some-one who will tell you honestly. Your mum or partner will always tell you that it is great the best they have read, this is mostly not true.

Get ready for plenty of rejections if you intend to send your completed manuscript to agents, you have to remember that agents get hundreds of manuscripts each week, unless you have previously published a novel you will be most likely rejected.
Always read an agents submission guidelines, as if you do not adhere to them your manuscript will never be read.

The other route is to self publish, be careful there are many company's out there that will promise you a good return for your money. Remember IF IT LOOKS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE THAN IT MOST LIKELY IS.

I hope this will help you on your way to becoming a published author.
